Google Japan's One Green Project
I found this this morning, but Google Japan has announced the One Green Project. There are two elements to the One Green project.
Quick Update: Turns out that the lead developer on the One Green Project is Shibata-san, the same developer of Coreblog which powers this blog on plone. His post is here.
The first is a google gadget that goes on to your igoogle page. Once you have added the google gadget to your site, you will need to login using a google account. Or you can do it the other way around, login to the project and then add the google gadget to your igoogle page. Whatever floats your boat. When registering, they will ask for a nickname and your address. You can add a comment if you so wish, and an idea for saving energy. Some examples I've seen is to use a bicycle where possible, or purchasing regional farm products.
Having added and "configured" the gadget, when you visit your igoogle page, it'll give you an idea for reducing CO2 emissions. By clicking on "take this action", it will show you your reduction. For example, "taking the action" of turning "down" your air conditioner from 78 degress to 82 degrees, you reduce 83g of CO2 emissions. If you then take a 1 minute shorter shower, your daily savings jumps to 157g.
The second thing you can do with the google gadget is to post your idea for saving energy. For example, bicycle to work.

To enact sections 5.15, 5.151, and 5.152 of the Revised Code to require the use of the English language by state and local government entities in official actions and proceedings, subject to certain exceptions.
As of 2004, Ohio's population included about 390,000 foreign-born (3.4%).
Podcast: Today's clash of cultures on campuses and the role IT needs to play
One of the feeds I have on Neohawk IT is Technology4Teachers.com. I noticed this morning that one of the posts there was "Podcast: Today's Clash of Cultures on Campuses and the Role IT Needs to Play". It struck me as an interesting thing to listen to, so I headed over to do just that.
Well, technology4teachers was linking to a podcast over at Educause. Turns out that the podcast is by by Morris W. Beverage Jr., President of Lakeland Community College.
I wish they would publish the slides that went along with it. Here's the presentation. Interesting listen, if you're interested.

Volunteer Opportunity at CFC

I just received an email from Beth at the CFC:

So Now What
I have migrated my Neohawk.Info Blog to Byteflow and I find myself going there to blog. It just seems easier. Plus, with launching the JANO site in Django I am finding that I want to transition this site to Django as well.
Problem is, there is actually quite bit of content on this site that would need to be "migrated". I'm less worried about my posts, to be honest, but my wife has some great posts up. I've actually wanted to migrate for a while now, particularly after migrating JANO's site to django. And now, byteflow has me hooked for blogging. The only thing missing is metaweblog support, but that's coming according to the roadmap.
Unfortunately, I'm not even sure where I would begin. First up, has anybody migrated a COREBlog to django? I'm not even sure where I would begin.

Interesting Challenge
Okay, so it looks like I've got an interesting challenge in front of me. An acquaintance whom shall remain unamed at this time, asked be took a look at django-liveblogging to see if there was anything I could do with it. Well, it was easy enough to install in an existing django project I was working on. It didn't work perfectly out of the box and the layout didn't match the templates I was using, but I'm feeling fairly confident I can get it to work.
So while this is going on, I saw on one of my Japanese tech feeds a post about monogolista, which is a twitter-like application written in django. The goal of the developers is not to create a twitter clone, but rather one that useful for an "in-house" environment.

Bed and Breakfast in Cleveland
Yesterday, I received an email from a Japanese gentleman asking if I could recommend a Bed and Breakfast in Cleveland. Unfortunately, the answer is no, since I don't know of any.
He is coming down from Toronto to hear Midori play with the Cleveland Orchestra at Severance Hall on March 22nd. (Concert information here).
