Blog will move to https

posted Mar 24, 2018, 6:29 AM by Robert Hawkins   [ updated Mar 24, 2018, 6:31 AM ]

So it's only taken Google like two decades but they finally got around to offering https for blogs on blogger.com that use a custom domain, like neohawk.org. Accordingly, my blog will default to https.  Apparently that means that any comments that were left by google plus or perhaps other commenting services like discus will now be broken or no longer appear.   Which is fine, there really isn't enough commenting on my blog to really worry about it.  Hell, there aren't even enough blog posts to worry about ;-)

Just wanted to let you know

Yoga Page Added

I (Rob) got certified as a Yoga teacher in May 2016. I have added a yoga page to document where I am teaching.

Removed Shared Items

posted Feb 21, 2013, 5:21 AM by Robert Hawkins

I removed the shared items from the top page. The middle section of the top page is now two columns of "Site News" and my blog feed instead of the three columns.  I made this change due to the fact that Google Reader has removed the share item feature and replaced it with Share to Google Plus

I didn't make the connection until the other day when I wanted to share something from Google Reader to my shared items page and realized that it was no longer an option.  The page that had all my shared items now appears to be gone.  Note, I have not looked that hard for it yet, but I don't see an easy way to get to it after a cursory attempt at finding one.

The only problem I have with this change is that there is really no way to automatically share items from Google Reader to this site.  I certainly don't mind posting to Google Plus and I spend alot of time on the plus.  However, it would be nice to have a feed of my "+" and my Google Reader so I could incorporate them into this site.

Ah, but such is the life of being a Google fan.  Most things come an go to varying degrees, but change is constant. ;-)

Added Nephew Blogs

Two of my nephews are taking Gap Year prior to starting their college experience.   They have both set up blogs about the adventures they are having.  Granted they are spending more time having the adventures than blogging about them.

Miscellaneous Hawkins' Web Pages

posted Dec 4, 2011, 1:32 PM by Robert Hawkins   [ updated Feb 4, 2012, 3:05 PM ]

Okay, if you are here you probably know me and know this is my website.  I just realized that I am not the only one with a website in the family.  My brother has one, my cousin Christopher (at least I think it's Christopher, but I'll need to double check later) has one, and my cousin Daniel (not brother) has one too.  And I just found out that my cousin Katy also has a web page!

Made me think about the fact that nobody has really put this altogether in one location.  This is just a start and I'll probably end up creating a static page for it.  But this is just an announcement of the pages I know:
  1. Robert Hawkins: http://www.neohawk.org
  2. George S. Hawkins: www.georgehawkins.net
  3. Daniel Hunsaker Hawkins: http://www.danielhhawkins.com/
  4. Katy Hawkins: http://www.katyhawkinsyoga.com
  5. Christopher Sachs: http://christophersachs.com/
  6. Jack Quigley: http://jack-quigley.com

My sister has a blog but it's inactive and I believe she is too busy at her church to blog much anymore.  My brother Dan was never interested I don't think but his company has one at Clarion Healthcare.  I'll add more if I become aware of them, but for now that's it.

Neohawk.org is now on Google Plus

posted Nov 11, 2011, 8:29 AM by Robert Hawkins   [ updated Nov 11, 2011, 8:32 AM ]

Since Neohawk is using google apps, the recent announcement by google allows us to use our neohawk.org accounts on google plus.  Also, recently Google announced the availability of "pages" on google plus.  It targets organizations, businesses really, rather than a personal site/domain like neohawk.org.  But I figured the only way to figure out whether it's usable is to create a neohawk.org page on Google+: click on the image below.

Happy New Year and Ignore Site Problems

posted Jan 1, 2011, 6:26 AM by Robert Hawkins

Happy New Year, everyone.  It's now 2011 everywhere and let's hope it's a great year!

I have made some changes to the neohawk.org DNS that may cause some problems over the next day or two.  The purpose of the changes was to insure that both neohawk.org and www.neohawk.org point to this site.  I think that neohawk.org was not pointing to this site, so that's why I made the change.

It's the first time I'm trying the method of forwarding and masking so I'm not exactly sure how it's all going to play out.  So if you have issues accessing the site, please be patient.  It'll be up eventually.

New Site

posted Nov 26, 2010, 9:41 AM by Robert Hawkins

In preparation for cancelling my current web hosting service, I have created this site.  It uses Google Sites which I have avoided until recently.  However, with the recent transition to the infrastructure, the expansion of services to Google Apps, and since it's free I have decided to completely migrate to Google.

The design pretty much mimics the old site.  I have much less control over design on Google Sites another contributing factor to me postponing the process of transitioning completely to Google.  Then again I'm not a designer and the design is simple enough that I'm not overly concerned about it anymore.

The big change from the prior set up is that the blog is now one for each person in the domain.  The fact remains that I (rob) am the only one blogging so I'm the only one with a blog.  You can find my blog here: Robataka's Blog
